How to register your business name with the Corporate Affairs Commission

Hey Partner, we understand that these times are hard, especially for our businesses, as the country is gradually adjusting to the new cash policies that followed the redesigned series of Naira notes. However, as everything returns to normal, we want your business to operate seamlessly regarding withdrawal limits and access to cash for transactions, and one way to do that is by registering your business name with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). Do you want to register your business name, and don’t know how to go about it, then this is for you. 

Choose a name for your business and conduct a search: The first step is to come up with a unique name that suits your business and make sure the name is not already taken by another business in Nigeria. Once you have chosen a name for your business, you need to conduct a name search to make sure it is available. This means that no one has to use the same business name as you. You can search for your business name online on the CAC website or at any CAC office. 

Complete the pre-registration form: After conducting a name search, you will need to complete the pre-registration form. You can do this online on the CAC website or at any CAC office. This form requires information about your proposed business name, your business address, and the nature of your business, in this case, POS business. 

Pay the registration fee: After completing the pre-registration form, you will be required to pay the registration fee. You can do this online on the CAC Website or at any designated bank. Check the fees for the CAC services here.

Submit the required documents: Once you have paid the registration fee, you will need to submit the following documents to the CAC: 

• Completed pre-registration form 
• Two passport photographs of the proprietor 
• Means of identification of the proprietor 
• Evidence of payment of registration fee 

Collect your certificate of registration: After submitting the required documents, the CAC will process your application and issue you a certificate of registration if your application is approved. This certificate serves as proof of your business registration. 

In summary, to register your business name with CAC in Nigeria, you need to choose a unique name, conduct a name search, complete the pre-registration form, pay the registration fee, submit the required documents, and collect your certificate of registration.
